The DPDP Rules come into force in May 2027.  India needs trained Data Protection Officers — urgently.  One year to comply.

Data Protection is now the law

Become the professional
India urgently needs.

The DPDP Act 2023 and DPDP Rules 2025 come into full force in May 2027. Every company, hospital, school, and platform that processes personal data must comply — and most of them don't know where to start. Trained Data Protection Officers are not just in demand. They are legally required.

The law has created a new role

What is a Data Protection Officer — and why does the law need one?

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, every Significant Data Fiduciary must appoint a Data Protection Officer. Every other organisation processing personal data must assign someone to manage grievances, consent, breach response, vendor contracts, and data subject rights — even if they don't carry the DPO title.

The role is not ceremonial. Penalties under the Act go up to ₹250 crore per violation. Breach notification must reach the Data Protection Board within 72 hours. Data subjects can file complaints directly with the Board if a grievance is not resolved in 90 days.

Someone in every organisation must own this. That person needs to know the law, know the obligations, and know how to operate compliance in practice — not just in theory. That is what this programme trains you to do.

"A Data Fiduciary shall, irrespective of any agreement to the contrary, be responsible for complying with the provisions of this Act in respect of any processing undertaken by it or on its behalf."

— DPDP Act 2023, Section 8(1)

FAQ

Questions we get asked. Answered directly.

If you have a question that isn't here, write to us. An actual person from the ASCL team will respond — not a bot.

Is this certification officially recognised by any government body?
The DPDP Act does not currently mandate a specific certification for DPOs. What it mandates is competence. This programme trains you to that standard — and the ASCL credential carries 26 years of institutional weight in India's cyber law space.
Can I offer external DPO services after completing the CDPO programme?
Yes. The Act expressly permits organisations to appoint an external Data Protection Officer. The CDPO programme is designed with this use case in mind. The vDPO platform is built for managing multiple client engagements simultaneously.
What is the difference between the Certificate course and the CDPO programme?
The Certificate in Data Protection Law gives you foundational knowledge of the DPDP Act and key global privacy laws. The CDPO programme is for professionals who want to practise — it covers advanced obligations, cross-border compliance, breach management, and hands-on use of the vDPO platform. If you want to work as a DPO, take the CDPO.
Do I get access to the vDPO tool as part of the CDPO programme?
Yes. Access to the vDPO platform is included. You will work through real compliance scenarios across 16 modules covering 362 controls and 44+ laws across 23 jurisdictions.
The DPDP Rules aren't fully in force yet. Is it too early to enrol?
It is precisely the right time. The Rules come into force in May 2027. Organisations that wait until then to find a qualified DPO will be non-compliant from day one. The professionals who enrol now will be the ones getting hired and retained in the twelve months that follow.
Can I pay in USD instead of INR?
Yes. The CDPO programme is available at USD 450 for international students. Write to us and we will arrange the payment accordingly.

May 2027 is not a soft deadline.

The DPDP Rules do not provide a grace period for organisations that weren't ready. A data breach reported late attracts up to ₹200 crore in penalties. A grievance not resolved in 90 days gives a Data Principal direct recourse to the Data Protection Board.

The qualified DPO who knows these obligations — and has the tools to manage them — will be one of the most sought-after professionals in India over the next two years. That could be you.
