Deleting a file doesn't necessarily destroy it.
Imagine deleting a confidential document from your laptop.
It disappears from your folder.
But copies may still exist in:
- Your computer's Trash or Recycle Bin
- Cloud storage and version history
- Automatic backups
- Other synchronized devices
- Email attachments
And depending on the storage technology, deleted data may sometimes be recoverable from the device itself.
Quick check
- Delete a test file from a cloud-synchronized folder.
- Check the cloud service's Trash or Recently Deleted folder.
- Check whether an earlier version or backup remains available.
The takeaway: Deleting a file from one location doesn't necessarily delete every copy.
